About Podcasting
Feature of podcasting
The main feature of podcasting is actually simple audio files and a wonderful
dissemination through the Internet. The inventor of this concept wanted to transmit
more than text to the audience on the Net and hence the RSS with enclosure software
came about. Given the background of blogging which has captured the imagination
of people worldwide as being the freest way to expand an idea and discuss issues,
podcasting too reached out to grab the idea of freedom of both broadcast and
choosing what you want to hear when you want to hear and how you want to her.
There is a great deal of advantages coming from the main feature of podcasting:
- Freedom of the podcaster: The podcaster can choose to broadcast whatever
they wish in terms of news, music, videos and other matters. The freedom comes
from the choice of the audience to choose what they want to hear. This broadcast
is not imposed upon the public at large and hence can be as sensitive as they
wish it to be. So much so that even such things as porno podcasting is also
gaining ground.
- Freedom of the audience: The audience in the same can profit of this feature
of podcasting since the audience is free to choose exactly what they want to
hear. It is like choosing your radio station and the programs you want to subscribe
to. This freedom highly enhances the quality of the time spent hearing (and
seeing) the files you download.
- Saves time: The ability of podcasting to automatically download the chosen/
subscribed files as updates as soon as you are connected to the Internet saves
a lot of time and inconvenience in searching, isolating and downloading individual
files as it was with streaming. This is done through a special always-on program
also known as podcatcher. The other name that this feature of podcasting is
known is aggregator. Besides, the podcasting can aggregate the relevant audio/video
files simultaneously from different station improving the quality of the output.
- Easy to manipulate: Podcasting enables the users to easily manipulate the
audio files to be replayed as and when they please. They can also be archived
easily in the computer or uploaded in an mp3 compatible player for playing back
while away from the computer (such as traveling or jogging or studying, etc).
- Easy to store: Since the podcasting material is downloadable as a normal
audio/video files they can easily be stored in computers. As a matter of fact
the RSS software which is highly compatible with any version and make of computers
is a great feature of podcasting, which makes it such a great innovation. This
software though it has come out only four years ago, it is compatible to both
high end gadgets such as iPods as well as the most backward and primitive computers.
All you need is to be connected to the Net to have the capacity to reach a podcast.
- Easy to identify and choose: With the demand rising, podcasting has been
organized in getting its own directory where the user can hear/or see sample
of what they would be downloading. In this way they do not end up with a pile
of useless matter just based on an attractive title. Once the user is familiar
and happy the content of the feed (the place where the podcasting material is
stored) then they can proceed in downloading the chosen material. This keeps
the users satisfied with their efforts and does not impose on the charges that,
for example, one would use for downloading while using a dial-up system.
Each and every feature of podcasting speaks volumes about applying modern technology
to simplify and improve day-to-day life. Isn't that what the technology is actually
meant to do?
